Chicago Bulls at Indiana Pacers Recap

October 10th, 2008 by Andrew Wamboldt

The Chicago Bulls fell to the Indiana Pacers 102-95 tonight. The Bulls are now 0-2 in preseason play.

Derrick Rose again showed flashes of brilliance. He ended the game with 13 points and 6 assists in 30 minutes. Derrick Rose was again able to blow past his man at will, and be an effective scorer. In the 4th quarter, Rose even hit a three point shot. However, Rose also missed two three point shots late in the fourth quarter pretty badly. He leaned into the shot, and showed awful shooting mechanics on those long range bombs.

T.J. Ford carved up the Bulls for 18 points. Ford put the game out of reach to the Bulls, driving past Rose, and drawing a foul on Sefolosha on his way to an and one. This put the game at 98-92 and out of reach for the Bulls.

Brandon Rush took advantage of some poor perimeter defense of the Bulls for 18 points on 7-9 shooting. This is similar to when his brother, Kareem Rush, took advantage of Hinrich’s poor defense in a game last year against the Bulls.

Tyrus Thomas was especially impressive tonight, scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots. It is great news for the Bulls if Thomas can continue to put more games like this together.

Aaron Gray also had a big game, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Gray had 14 points and 9 rebounds last night against the Mavericks. Last preseason, there was a strong out-crying for Gray to be named the Bulls starting center. If Gray, who started tonight for Drew Gooden who was out with an injury, continues to play this well, he may just play himself into the starting center spot. The Bulls definitely need a player of his size out there on the court.

Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha, and Larry Hughes all scored 13 points in tonight’s game.

Luol Deng, again put in an underwhelming performance, only scoring 6 points on 2-9 shooting, although he did have 5 assists. It is hard to see Deng stepping up into that first option role.

The Bulls next game is against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 14th. The game will be on CSN-Chicago.
