Chicago Bulls vs. Utah Jazz Recap

October 18th, 2008 by Andrew Wamboldt

The Chicago Bulls fell to the Utah Jazz 88 to 80 in a very ugly game.

Deron Williams left the game after falling down very awkwardly. Williams had to leave the game on crutches after spraining his left ankle.

The Bulls were without Ben Gordon again tonight. The Bulls did not want to risk Gordon aggravating his injured toe by playing in the second of back to back games. The Bulls are now 0-4 in the preseason when Gordon sits out. The Bulls are undefeated when Gordon plays.

Derrick Rose had his first poor game of the preseason. He finished with 11 points on 4-14 shooting with only 2 assists. A lot of Rose’s problems tonight came from the players around him playing so pathetically.

Luol Deng put up another stinker, only scoring 6 points. Andres Nocioni, who was plagued with foul trouble, also only had 6 points. Vinny Del Negro might have to consider starting Nocioni over Deng in a few of these preseason games to send a message to Deng, who is playing horribly since inking his $80 million deal.

Kirk Hinrich and Larry Hughes continue to make the case for why Ben Gordon should start. Hinrich had 8 points and 5 assists, while Hughes scored 10 points. Their combined 18 points and 5 assists is less production than Gordon had the night before by himself. (Gordon had 23 points and 5 assists in last night’s Bulls win over the Jazz).

Thabo Sefolosha is on his way to being banished to the bench for the season. He had a 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 game in 13 minutes of play. Sefolosha did absolutely nothing on the court outside of missing three shots.

Tyrus Thomas had a pretty good game, finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Although Carlos Boozer got the best of him, finishing with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

The Bulls had a lot of trouble stopping Andrei Kirilenko, who scored 18 points, dished 5 assists, and blocked 3 shots.

The Bulls next game is on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.
