Johnny Red Kerr, Michael Jordan Make Hall of Fame Cut
February 13th, 2009 by Andrew WamboldtFormer Chicago Bull, Michael Jordan and long time Bulls broadcaster, Johnny Red Kerr have been selected as two of the sixteen finalists for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Michael Jordan, who led the Bulls to six championships and who many consider the greatest player of all time, is a shoe-in for the hall of fame. Johnny Red Kerr, who the Bulls honored last Tuesday at the United Center, not so much.
Johnny Red Kerr has already been a Hall of Fame finalist in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. In order to get into the Hall of Fame, a finalist has to receive the votes from 18 of the 24 members on the Honors Committee. Kerr has failed to receive the requisite 18 votes each time that he has been a finalist.
This past Tuesday, Jerry Colangelo, as a representative for the Basketball Hall of Fame, awarded Kerr the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award.
Will this finally be the year the Kerr gets into the Hall of Fame? Him and Jordan going in together certainly seems right.
