Derrick Rose’s High School Transcript Altered

May 28th, 2009 by Andrew Wamboldt

According to the Chicago Suntimes, Derrick Rose had a grade changed to bolster his high school transcript for college admissions.

Tulsa v Memphis

If the rumors of Rose's academic misconduct are true, Memphis could be stripped of its 38-2 record and NCAA Finals appearance.

Someone with access to Derrick Rose’s academic records at Simeon High School changed a D to a C, boosting the future Bulls Rookie of the Year’s transcript for college, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times today.

Who altered the records in the grade-changing scandal remains a mystery that the Chicago Public Schools has been unable to solve.

Rose, 20, was one of four Simeon athletes whose grades were boosted for a one-month period after their June 2007 graduation and then changed back after the bogus transcripts had been sent to colleges, according to sources and a report by the CPS inspector general.

“None of the grade changes were supported by any documentation,” Inspector General James Sullivan wrote in the 2008 annual report.

Also, yesterday, news broke that a stand in took the test for one of the University of Memphis basketball players. The player was identified as a one and done player, which signaled Rose. According to the Suntimes, multiple sources have said that the player is Rose.

On Wednesday, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal obtained a document from the NCAA alleging a stand-in took the SAT for a University of Memphis player. Multiple sources have told news outlets that player is Rose.

Where there is smoke there is usually fire. It definitely looks as though these allegations will prove to be true. What Rose should do is stand up and admit his wrongdoing. If he denies it, and these allegations come true, he will be branded a liar.

The SAT sit in is a result of the NBA’s unfair age rule. There is nothing about playing basketball that requires a college education. It has just been a tactic for the college’s to take advantage of these players for massive profits and to protect NBA GM’s from making mistakes. One direction Rose could take in this is saying he was forced to do this because of the NBA’s unfair age rule.

There should be more news on both of these scandals as the days draw forward, as it looks like there is a dearth of reporters working on the story.
