All these stats don't mean jack. It's the simple fact that Gordon would never help us win a championship. The Hollinger PER is for nerds who want to over analyze the game.

The Bulls wouldn't be paying $22 million a year for Ben Gordon. They would pay whatever Gordon's contract was worth, and then pay luxury tax...which is a result of every player on the roster, just not Gordon.

Even if you want to use the flawed idea that the luxury tax is all on Gordon (and not the other players on the team), then $22 million is a false figure. The Bulls are said to have around $2.1 million before going into the luxury tax. If the Bulls matched Detroit, and gave Gordon a $11 million a year offer, the first year on the contract would be $8.712 million. So if you want to lump all of the luxury tax on Gordon, it would only be paying Gordon $15.324 million, not $22 million. The luxury tax would only be a one year thing, as the Bulls have a lot of expiring contracts coming off at the end of this year.

And Gordon being outscored by 99% of the players he defended is a flat out lie.

Gordon played 2,629 minutes at shooting guard last season. In those minutes, he scored 26.2 points per 48 while giving up 20.6 points per 48, and having a PER of 18.0 while giving up a PER 15.4.

Gordon played 246 minutes at small forward last season. In those minutes he scored 31.4 points per 48, while giving up 16.3 points per 48, and had a 20.8 PER while giving up a 10.5 PER.

Gordon played 123 minutes at point guard last season. In those minutes, he scored 38.0 points per 48, while giving up 25.9 points per 48, and had a PER of 29.3 while giving up a PER of 26.4.

If you compute that all together, you get Gordon scoring 27.1 per 48, with a PER of 18.7 while giving up 20.5 points a game and a PER of 15.4.

Gordon outscored and outproduced his counterparts on the court.

So is Ben Gordon Worth 22 million? (11 mil regular pay and 11 mil luxury tax fee) The Bulls are not idiots. They are not going to pay the Luxury Tax on Ben Gordon. Would we ever win a championship with Ben Gordon, Hell No. Yes he can score, but the player he defended 99% of the time outscored him. Don't forget about his brutal ball handling. All we need is Deng to sack up and play and put up 18ppg, and hopefully Salmons can put up 16-18ppg. We should be fine.
