Tyrus Thomas Nominated For Jefferson Award
August 6th, 2009 by Andrew WamboldtAccording to Bulls.com, Tyrus Thomas has been nominated for the national Jefferson Award for his work through Tyrus Thomas Inc. with the C.A.T.C.H. youth retention program.
Chicago Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas has been nominated for the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Athlete, presented by All Stars Helping Kids, a national non-profit founded by NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott.
Fans can “get in the game” and help Thomas win by voting on the All Stars Helping Kids website (www.allstarshelpingkids.org) and via text message beginning in August and running through November 15th.
Thomas joins other impressive nominees including Mia Hamm and Venus Williams. Past winners of the Jefferson Award include Oprah Winfrey and Bill and Melinda Gates.
Thomas started the Tyrus Thomas Foundation, which in cooperation with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, provides educational and recreational programs to area children. This year, he launched Tyrus Thomas, Inc., to fund a youth retention program called C.A.T.C.H. (Caring and Actively Teaching Children Hope), which targets at-risk youth. From the NBA, Devin Harris, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Greg Oden, Jason Richardson, Jalen Rose were also nominated.
