Bulls Trade Aaron Gray to Hornets For Devin Brown

Monday, January 25th, 2010

According to Bulls.com, the Bulls have traded Aaron Gray to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Devin Brown.

January 25, 2010 — The Chicago Bulls announced today that the team has acquired guard Devin Brown from the New Orleans Hornets for center Aaron Gray.

“We’re excited to add Devin Brown to our team,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “His toughness, defensive versatility, and shooting will be excellent additions to our perimeter rotation.”

This is a solid addition for the Bulls. Brown gives the Bulls more depth and size in the back court, and it is basically a free acquisition personnel wise, as Vinny Del Negro has played Aaron Gray very little this season.

According to Shamsports.com, the Bulls will take on an additional $107,075 in salary with this trade.

I think this trade will prove to be meaningless for both teams. I think I would rather have Aaron Gray than Devin Brown though, especially with two of the Bulls big men (Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah) suffering from plantar fascitis.

Update:

Devin Brown has a trade kicker in his contract, so the Bulls will be taking on more than $107,075 in salary commitment from this trade.

Chicago Bulls 107 at New Orleans Hornets 93

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

The Chicago Bulls defeated the New Orleans Hornets 107 to 93 in New Orleans tonight.

The game was an easy victory for the Bulls as the Hornets were without Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler. The Hornets closed the gap a little on the Bulls late in the fourth, but the Bulls were able to hang on for the victory.

The Bulls set the tone early behind great ball movement from Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon.

Derrick Rose had 21 points and 6 assists in the game. When Rose is in the game, the Bulls really push the tempo. The Bulls were running the fast break effectively and getting a lot of easy points off of the fast break. Rose also shot the ball very well, making jumpshot after jumpshot.

Ben Gordon also had a good game, scoring 19 points and dishing 7 assists. Gordon had some nice drives to the rim and shot the ball well, as usual. Gordon had one lazy moment, where he jogged down court after Peja Stojakovic on the fast break, but other than that, Gordon’s effort was good tonight. Gordon had two styles of assists tonight. On some, he would quickly pass it to the open man. On others, he would play a two man game with one of the Bulls bigs.

The Bulls bigs were a big reason why the Bulls early game ball movement was so successful. Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas were putting the ball in the basket. Tyrus Thomas had 15 points 10 rebounds and 3 blocks and Joakim Noah had 16 points 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. The Bulls are finally getting production from their two big positions, and as a result, they are looking really good as a team.

Thomas and Noah both had a number of nice dunks tonight. Tyrus Thomas was assessed a technical foul for taunting following one of his dunks.

Luol Deng had one of his worse games in awhile, scoring 13 points and grabbing 4 rebounds, but by no means had a bad game.

David West had 24 points and 14 rebounds tonight. While the Bulls’ bigs have been playing great help defense, they are struggling a bit still with their help defense.

Peja Stojakovic helped out the losing New Orleans effort by also pouring in 24 points. Devin Brown added in 17 points.

Andres Nocioni did his usual, scoring 13 points with bad defense and stupid fouls. Kirk Hinrich had 8 points and 3 assists and had little affect on the game.

With the win, the Bulls improve to 22-28 on the season.
