El Nuevo Dia: Arroyo Close To Signing With Bulls

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

According to El Nuevo Dia (via True Hoop), Carlos Arroyo is close to signing with the Chicago Bulls.

On Saturday, El Nuevo Dia, a newspaper out of Puerto Rico, reported that Arroyo was close to signing a deal with the Chicago Bulls. According to the report, the agreement would be for one season and $1 million.

Arroyo guided Maccabi Tel Aviv last season to an Israeli Premier League Championship and was named MVP of the finals.

He averaged 14.4 points and 4.1 assists during the season.

Carlos Arroyo is a good player, who would be a good backup point guard on most teams. However, the Bulls, as currently constructed, are not one of those teams. The Bulls already have Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo manning the point guard position. Signing Arroyo really only makes sense if we are planning on moving one of our point guards.

Bulls Sign Linton Johnson III

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Bulls.com is reporting that the Chicago Bulls have signed Linton Johnson III.

March 11, 2009 – The Chicago Bulls today signed forward Linton Johnson III to a 10-day contract. Johnson, a 6-8, 205-pound forward, will be in uniform tonight when the Bulls take on the Orlando Magic at Amway Arena at 6:00 p.m. (CT).

Johnson, a five-year pro, most recently played with the Charlotte Bobcats during the start of the 2008-09 campaign. He appeared in two games with the Bobcats before being waived on Nov. 19, 2008.

The Chicago native will re-join the Bulls for the second time in his career. During the 2003-04 season, he appeared in 41 games with Chicago and posted averages of 4.2 ppg and 4.5 rpg in 17.9 mpg.

Johnson has also enjoyed stints with the San Antonio Spurs (member of the 2005 NBA Championship team), New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns and Bobcats. For his career, he has posted averages of 4.0 ppg and 3.4 rpg in 14.5 mpg. He owns career shooting averages of .417 from the field and .699 from the line.

Johnson, 28, was undrafted out of Tulane University.

Chicago’s roster now stands at 14.

What are the Bulls thinking? Linton Johnson will do nil to help the Bulls on the basketball court, but will be constantly conjuring images of the dark ages in the minds of Bulls fans.

Lindsey Hunter Signing Finalized

November 13, 2008 – The Chicago Bulls today signed Lindsey Hunter. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Hunter, a 6-2, 195-pound guard, will be with the Bulls tonight when they host the Dallas Mavericks at the United Center at 7:30 p.m.

Hunter, a 15-year NBA veteran, most recently played with the Detroit Pistons during the 2007-08 campaign. Last year, he appeared in 24 games and averaged 2.4 ppg and 1.4 apg in 9.0 mpg.

The Utica, Miss native has enjoyed two stints with the Pistons (1993-2000, 2003-08). He has also played for the Milwaukee Bucks (2000-01), the L.A. Lakers (2001-02) and the Toronto Raptors (2002-03). Bulls to Sign Lindsey Hunter

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls are set to sign Lindsey Hunter today. Here is what Johnson wrote:

Moving to address their shortage of point guards with Kirk Hinrich sidelined for three months, the Bulls will sign veteran Lindsey Hunter on Thursday.

Hunter, 37, has 15 years of pro experience with career averages of 8.8 points and 2.7 assists. He’s also known as a capable defender. Last season Hunter played 24 games with the Pistons, who originally drafted him 10th overall in 1993.

Derrick Rose has played more than 40 minutes in each game since Hinrich tore a ligament in his right thumb that required surgery.

Hunter averaged 9 minutes per game last season, which could ease the burden on Rose.

Done Deal: Bulls and Deng Agree to $70 Million Deal

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

ESPN is reporting that the Bulls and Luol Deng have verbally agreed to a 6 year deal worth over $70 million. Luol Deng was able to get the Bulls to increase their yearly offer after a disappointing but not bad 2007-2008 campaign.

Deng gave the Bulls an August 4th ultimatum for them to agree to a deal. Reports were that the Bulls were offering less than they were last year, but those reports have turned out to be false.

Now the Bulls will be able to focus their full attention on their other restricted free agent, Ben Gordon. Gordon is the highest scoring player from the 2004 draft class and should receive a deal anywhere from $60 million to $70 million.

Also, the rumored Andres Nocioni for Brad Miler trade can go through now. The Bulls now know who their starting small forward will be, so they will be able to make a trade with Nocioni, since they will be able to play both Thabo Sefolosha and Tyrus Thomas at small forward, as well as Demetris Nichols and Larry Hughes. Although it is stated in Bellan’s report that the Bulls will likely not attempt the Miller trade until they also have Ben Gordon signed, likely for cost certainty.

This signing is a great move for the organization, and hopefully they follow it up by swiftly signing Gordon. Gordon also has to be resigned by August 4th in order for him to play for Great Britain.

UPDATE: The deal is worth $71 million and up to $80 million with incentives.
