Yahoo Sports: No Boozer Discussions

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

According to the Yahoo Sports twitter, the Bulls have not had any conversations in regards to Carlos Boozer.

Bulls haven’t had a “single conversation” about a 3-way deal Blazers and “have nothing going” with Utah about Boozer, Bulls source tells Y!.

Yahoo Sports seems to be the most well connected of all NBA news outlets, so their reports usually have the most credence. So according to this report, a trade looks much more unlikely than the recent ESPN report made it out to be.

Kirk Hinrich To Blazers Rumors Heating Up

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

In a Yahoo Sports draft article, Adrian Wojnarowski, Kirk Hinrich has been telling friends he has been dealt to Portland.

Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich(notes) is telling friends that he thinks he’ll be dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers, who have interest in pairing him with Brandon Roy in the backcourt.

Wojnarowski is reputable. Usually you see this player telling friends storys on sites like Hoops World. When Wojnarowski says it, it holds a little more clout, and should be taken seriously.

Speaking of Hoops World, Bill Ingram is saying via twitter that a trade is agreed to, and that Steve Blake will be sent to Chicago in exchange for Kirk Hinrich.

We’re hearing Portland has a deal for Hinrich . . .Blake and something else going to Chicago

If the Hoops World rumor turns out to be true, I think that Travis Outlaw would be the additional piece going to Chicago.

Both Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake. The Bulls would be able to waive one or both of them, to give themselves lots of flexibility in regards to re-signing Ben Gordon.

While there is a lot of buzz about Kirk Hinrich going to Portland, it is nothing more than rumors at this point.

Former Bulls Heating Up

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Just a little interesting picture to see on the Yahoo! NBA page today, that showed two former Bulls among this weeks hot performers.

Timberwolves Covet Hinrich and Sefolosha

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Chicago Bulls have exchanged trade proposals, one of which includes a three way trade that would net the Bulls Amare Stoudemire.

The Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves have been exchanging trade proposals that include a possible three-way deal with the Suns that would send Stoudemire to the Bulls, a Western Conference executive said Tuesday night.

So far, nothing that the Bulls and Wolves have brainstormed has brought the Suns closer to moving Stoudemire. Nevertheless, one proposed deal would send Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas to Phoenix, along with the expiring contracts of Chicago’s Drew Gooden and Minnesota’s Jason Collins. Minnesota would receive the player it covets – Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich – and Bulls guard Thabo Sefolosha.

That three-way scenario remains improbable, but there are several possibilities between Chicago and Minnesota that are alive. The Bulls want expiring contracts and draft picks to dump Hinrich and forward Andres Nocioni. Chicago has shopped them separately to several teams, but sources say Minnesota has no interest in Nocioni.

The Bulls have also had discussions with the Los Angeles Clippers regarding center Chris Kaman, one Western Conference executive said.

The Amare Stoudemire, three way trade scenario is the one that all Bulls fans want. Bringing in Stoudemire while dumping Kirk Hinrich’s contract would be great. Is it a probable scenario? We will just have to wait until Thursday.

Ignoring Amare Stoudemire for a moment, what trades could the Bulls work out involving just the Timberwolves? Trade talks would certainly circle around Jason Collin’s big expiring contract and obviously, Kirk Hinrich and Thabo Sefolosha. The Timberwolves have an assortment of players on one and two year contracts that they could mix and match with the Bulls to make a trade that doesn’t oush the Bulls over the luxury tax.

What’s this trade do for the Bulls? It rids them of Kirk Hinrich’s long term contract, allowing them to potentially become players in 2010 free agency. It allows them to re-sign Ben Gordon this summer, while remaining comfortably under the luxury tax threshold.

The Chris Kaman talks are somewhat intriguing. Kaman is a good player, but he’s not Amare Stoudemire, he’s not Chris Bosh, and he’s not Carlos Boozer. Landing Kaman after those three names were mentioned as possibilities would be underwhelming, but could be a good trade depending on what we have to give up to get him. If Tech N9ne’s information is correct, then it would take Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas to land Kaman. That’s too much. Drew Gooden and Joakim Noah? That price sounds just right.

Bulls fans right now have given up all hope on Amare Stoudemire, and this is misguided. This is not to say that the Bulls have a good chance of landing Stoudemire, but as chronicled earlier, Sarver’s financial mess will not just magically go away, and a Stoudemire trade to the Bulls could save him over $20 million over the next two years. There is still 38 hours until the trade deadline, and a lot can change in 38 hours in the world of NBA trade talks.

Update: 11:45 PM

The article originally had this included as well, but it was later removed.

However, sources say the Wolves and Bulls are discussing Hinrich and Sefolosha for Collins and Brian Cardinal. The Wolves are intrigued with Hinrich’s ability to play the point and off-guard and see him as a good complement to Randy Foye. Collins and Cardinal have shorter-term contracts that bring Chicago payroll relief.

If that is the proposed trade, then the Bulls would have to include either Michael Ruffin or Cedric Simmons to make a trade scenario with Minnesota that doesn’t push the Bulls into the luxury tax.

Update: 12:19 PM

The portion of the article regarding the potential Kirk Hinrich and Thabo Sefolosha for Jason Collins and Brian Cardinal has been added back into the article.

Gordon for Marion Deal Dies

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Yahoo Sports is reporting, from 3 sources, that the Bulls and Heat had exensive trade talks involving Ben Gordon.

In fact, Miami has been exploring a lot of possibilities, including, three sources told Yahoo! Sports, recent discussions with the Chicago Bulls on several trade scenarios that included Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for unsigned restricted free agent Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes and possibly Joakim Noah. Yet, those talks died within the past seven to 10 days and sources said there was no indication they would be restarted.

Source: Yahoo Sports

Ben Gordon was seen at a charity event last weekend Wade’s World Foundation’s charity event at 10pin Bowling Lounge. Typically, only friends of the athlete actually end up attending these charity events.

On July 31st, Victor Bellan reported that the Bulls were talking to the Miami Heat, New Orleans Hornets, and Phoenix Suns.

On August 18th, we had reports that trade talks have fell through between the Bulls and Heat. At the time, I ventured to guess that the deal being discussed was Ben Gordon and Andres Nocioni for Shawn Marion. The Heat wouldn’t be too thrilled with such a trade, as Nocioni’s contract would cut into their cap flexibility in 2010.

The Miami Herald reported on Wednesday that the Bulls and Heat have had talks about a sign and trade involving Ben Gordon. They say Gordon wants big money and that the Heat will take their current roster into camp. They don’t say that the fact that Gordon wants big money has anything to do with it.

The new deal, involving Larry Hughes instead of Andres Nocioni seemed to be the logical direction that the trade talks would move. Larry Hughes allows the Heat to retain their cap flexibility for 2010.

It is interesting seeing Joakim Noah pop up in trade talks again. Noah’s name has previously popped up in the Brad Miller trade talks. It seems as though Joakim Noah is nothing but a throw on in trade talks these days. The Bulls are likely fed up with Noah after the marijuana arrest, showing up to summer league grossly out of shape, and just generally not doing a whole lot this summer.

It is hard to see Joakim Noah as a deal breaker on either side.

These trade talks are very alarming. I would hope that the Bulls aren’t foolish enough to trade Ben Gordon to Miami. Ben Gordon, Dwyane Wade, and Michael Beasley would form the most potent offensive trio in the league. The scariest part of this trade is that Miami will still be able to sign a max free agent in 2010. They could add a low post player in Yao Ming, Chris Bosh, or Amare Stoudemire. They could decide they have enough offense already, and sign a defensive specialist such as Tyson Chandler. If the Cleveland Cavaliers end up stinking the next two years, Miami could quickly become the favorites to sign Lebron James.

If Miami cannot get the Bulls to pull a trigger on this deal (it is really hard to see as things being held up on the Miami side), then they may have another shot at Gordon next offseason. If Gordon takes the qualifying offer, the Heat will have enough money to offer him a lucrative contract on the open market.

If Pat Riley can pull off the heist of Ben Gordon, he has to begin being placed in discussions as the greatest general manager in NBA History. He will have put in place the best offensive trio in the league, while still having the flexibility to add to that core in 2010.

We can only hope that John Paxson (or more accurately, Jerry Reinsdorf’s cheapness) doesn’t create the next NBA dynasty down in Miami.
